What is the lowest team total by Pakistan in the history of the T20 World Cup?
There are many teams in world cricket who falter at the most crucial juncture because they are not able to sustain the pressure. This also results in them losing a match that they could have easily won by applying themselves in a better way and handling the pressure properly. A similar thing happened with the Pakistan national cricket team in the 2014 T20 World Cup when they were playing against the West Indies.
In the 32nd match of the tournament in Mirpur on April 1, 2014, the Pakistan team became part of an unwanted record as they made their lowest ever team total in the history of the T20 World Cup that day.
The West Indian captain, Darren Sammy, won the toss and elected to bat first on a tough batting pitch. Pakistan bowlers started really well, as they gave nothing to the opposition batters. The openers got out cheaply, and by the end of 10 overs, the West Indies innings did not seem to go anywhere.
Till 13.5 overs, the West Indies were 81/5 as the Pakistan bowlers were all above them. But then Dwayne Bravo and Darren Sammy stitched together a partnership of 71 runs and took the team to a respectable as well as a defendable total. Pakistan were asked to chase down a target of 167 runs in their 20-over quota.
At the halfway mark, it seemed like Pakistan would hold the upper hand and would chase this down comfortably, but then something happened and the Pakistan batters started to go down like dominoes.
Both openers got out on ducks, as Ahmed Shehzad got a first-ball duck. Mohammad Hafeez held one end and just kept defending, but it got late, and the batting never took off. The Pakistan batters only managed a total score of 82 runs and got all out in 17.5 overs. This is their lowest ever score in the history of the T20 World Cup.
Four West Indian bowlers were among the wickets as they snatched a victory from the mouth of the Pakistan players. Dwayne Bravo was the player of the match for his phenomenal innings.
