Virat Kohli on verge of achieving a massive T20I world record

The T20I series between India and Sri Lanka will get underway when the two teams will lock horns on Sunday in Guwahati. And, the Indian captain Virat Kohli is only one run away from creating history as he just needs one more run to surpass fellow teammate Rohit Sharma and become the highest run-scorer in the shortest format.

Kohli and the vice-captain of India Rohit Sharma are tied at the moment with both the players having 2,633 runs. The Indian opener has been rested for the T20I series and that makes it all easy for Kohli to achieve this milestone and even go ahead of his team-mate.

The Indian captain has been playing consistent good cricket in all three formats of the game and so has been the story in the shortest format. He played spectacularly in the recently concluded West Indies series as well where he smashed  94 runs in 50 balls in the first T20I to help his side chase down the mammoth total of 208.

In the third and the final T20I, Kohli was even more clinical as he played a thunderous knock of unbeaten 70 in just 29 balls and took India to a mammoth total of 240. It made the situation all too easy for the men in blue to win yet another series at home.

The hosts India will be up against Sri Lanka after two consecutive T20I series victory against Bangladesh and West Indies respectively. Kohli was rested for the Bangladesh series and it was Rohit, who guided his side to a 2-1 victory after losing the first game.

Meanwhile, India has a very dominating record against Sri Lanka in the shortest format of the game. They have never lost a bilateral T20I series against Sri Lanka and they are also currently of a five-match winning streak against the Lions. Sri Lanka last won a T20I against Sri Lanka back in 2016.
