Trent Boult hopeful of lifting ICC CWC 2023 after back-to-back Final losses
New Zealand left-arm Speedster Trent Boult, following his selection for Blackcaps’ upcoming ODI tour to England, stated that he is confident about tasting glory in Cricket World Cup 2023 on October. Boult was a key figure in New Zealand’s back-to-back World Cup Final appearances in 2015 & 2019, where they lost to Australia and England respectively.
It is because of individuals like him, that New Zealand reached Finals of 4 out of last 7 ICC tournaments. In 2021, the Kiwis before losing the ICC T20 World Cup final to the Aussies, defeated India in the inaugural ICC WTC Final and broke the jinx.
Now that the 2023 ODI World Cup is upon us, Trent Boult has expressed his desire to grab the WC trophy, only a year after rejecting New Zealand Central contract in August 2022. He will make his first ODI appearance in Kiwi colors for the first time since September 2022 when England host them for the 1st ODI at Sophia Gardens on Sep. 8.
Tom Latham’s side will play a 4-match T20I and ODI series in England before flying over to Bangladesh for 3 ODIs and playing the World cup opener on October 5 against the Three Lions. No one can ever forget the 2019 CWC Final at Lords and the Kiwis will be eager to get their revenge.
“There’s history involved there. The times we have had in previous campaigns has been very exciting. So just hungry to get involved, and hopefully play a big role. I’m just thinking about hopefully lifting something pretty shiny that we were pretty close to four years ago. That’s the biggest focus.”
“Definitely as hungry as ever to still represent the country, and hopefully do something special with the guys over the next couple of months. Can’t wait.” – Trent Boult concluded.
