Tony Irish, the CEO of Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) has stepped down from his role citing some personal reasons. He was elected as the new Chief Executive in September last year.

Soon after he stepped down from his role, PCA’s commercial director Rob Lynch took his position on an interim basis.

Irish has previously served as the chairman of Federation of International Cricketers Association (FICA) before moving to the PCA. After taking up the role at PCA, Tony had to move to the UK from South Africa. His family is reportedly facing issues due to the ongoing situation in his country due to the coronavirus. This forced him to take a call as he has decided to head back to South Africa to his daughters amid the crisis.

“It’s an honour to have served as chief executive of the PCA, but it’s also been a very challenging time for me and my daughters in England. I have made a decision based on what’s best for us as a family.” Tony said after his resignation.

The chairman of PCA Daryl Mitchell, who will have some more burden after Tony’s resignation wished him for his prosperous future and hailed his management skills at the PCA, especially during the tough times.

“I wish Tony and his daughters the very best on their return to South Africa. Tony has had a big influence on the management team, especially in these very testing times.” Mitchell said.
