South Africa Announces T20 World Cup 2024 Squad and Unveiled Jersey

The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to kick-off on June 2nd. Two nations (West Indies and USA) will host the tournament. Meanwhile, South Africa has geared up for the competition as they have unveiled their official jersey and announced their 15-member squad.

In the T20 World Cup 2024, South Africa will sees a major change in the leadership. This time Temba Bavuma won’t be their captain instead the responsibility is given to Aiden Markram. He will be leading the Proteas for the first time in the T20 World Cup.

Markram has been trusted with the captaincy because he has won SA20 tournament two times (back-to-back) as a captain with Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

While there’s a change in captaincy, a big name is also included in the squad – Quinton de Kock. Another good news came for Proteas in Anrich Nortje as he will be available to contest for the spot in playing 11.

The squad also welcomes two exciting newcomers: Ryan Rickelton and Ottniel Baartman. These uncapped players earned their call-up with stellar performances in the recent SA20 tournament. Rickelton amassed a whopping 530 runs and clinched the top-scorer title. Baartman, on the other hand, impressed everyone with his bowling skills, claiming 18 wickets in just 8 games.

A Jersey Inspired by National Pride
South Africa has unveiled their official jersey for the T20 World Cup, which displays the national flower, the King Protea, prominently printed on the shirt.

South Africa has been placed in Group D for the T20 World Cup 2024. The other teams in the Group D are Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Nepal. South Africa’s first match is scheduled for June 3rd against Sri Lanka, and all eyes will be on the Proteas to see if they can roar their way to victory under Markram’s leadership.

With a mixture of experienced players and exciting new talent, the South African squad has the potential to make a serious impact in the T20 World Cup. The return of key figure like Anrich Nortje, along with the uncapped new players Rickelton and Baartman, adds depth to the team.
