Shubman Gill, the opening batsman for Gujarat Titans (GT), has been in excellent form this season and is only the second Indian batsman to surpass 800 runs in a single IPL season. The 23-year-old has scored three hundreds in his past four innings and has been crucial to GT’s journey to the championship game.
In addition, Shubman is about to surpass a significant mark that Virat Kohli, his hero, set. The young Indian opener is currently third behind Jos Buttler and Virat Kohli in terms of most runs scored in an IPL season.

With 851 runs scored in 16 innings this season at an average of 60.78 and a strike rate of 156.43, Shubman Gill now holds the Orange Cap. Gill trails Jos Buttler’s 863 runs by just 12 runs, and Virat Kohli’s 973 runs record by 122 runs.
In 2016, Virat Kohli broke the previous record by amassing 973 runs in a single IPL season, thanks to 4 hundreds and 7 fifty-pluses. Buttler, on the other side, had 863 runs scored last year while also hitting 4 centuries.
To surpass Virat Kohli’s record, Shubman Gill would need to hit another century and amass more than 122 runs against Chennai Super Kings in the Tournament Final. If Gill goes on to score 49 runs in the final, then will become only the second ever cricketer after Virat Kohli to score more than 900 runs in a single season of IPL.
