The cricketing community halted and took note as Shubman Gill scored his first Indian Premier League (IPL) century in 2023 as Gujarat Titans upset Sunrisers Hyderabad by 34 runs to go to the playoffs. Gill extended his hot streak with the bat and became the first player in his club to score more than 500 runs.
Even Virat Kohli shared a “out of this world” tale on Instagram in honour of Gill, summarising the influence the opening batter has had on him and the current crop of players as the cricketing community doffed its cap to Gill.

In a stunning Instagram story, Kohli, who has also been in excellent form this season, gently announced Gill as his replacement.
“There is Gill and then there is potential. Lead the upcoming generation going forward. God bless you,” Kohli wished the young player in the Instagram story, encouraging him to serve as an example for the younger generation much like the Royal Challengers Bangalore player did in his peak.
Gill moved up to No. 2 on the list of scorers this season thanks to a 101-run performance against Hyderabad, with RCB captain Faf du Plessis the only player ahead of him.
Speaking at the post-game presentation ceremony, Gill expressed his genuine joy at scoring his first IPL century against SRH, the side he had made his debut against.
