Sanjay Manjrekar condemns the JNU violence

The recent attack on students and staff at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has drawn condemnation from various quarters and even the sports fraternity came out in the open about the horrific act. Former India cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar expressed his support for the ongoing protests in Mumbai, and Olympic bronze medallist Yogeshwar Dutt also joined the bandwagon.

“Well done Mumbai!,” Manjrekar had retweeted a post which showed images from the protest organized at the Gateway of India.

In reply, Dutt quoted a photograph from the same protest which showed a girl holding a ‘Free Kashmir’ placard: “This is also the truth of the same procession. Sanjay Manjrekar what do you have to say about such people?”

The image of the girl has gone viral on social media and a number of people have objected to it.

Earlier, India captain Virat Kohli said that he doesn’t want to be irresponsible while speaking on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) without having total knowledge of it.

“On the issue, I do not want to be irresponsible and speak on something that has, you know, radical opinions both sides. I need to have total information, total knowledge of what it means and what is going on and then be responsible to give my opinion on it,” Kohli had said on Saturday.

Former India captain turned BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, on the other hand, came under the scanner when his daughter Sana Ganguly posted on Instagram against the CAA, and Ganguly made up for it saying someone had hacked Sana’s account. This did not go down well with many who were impressed by the 18-year-olds courage to speak out and at the same time, unimpressed by her father’s covering up for her.

Widespread protests have been witnessed across the country over the CAA and the chaos is only expected to increase.
