Rajat Manohar Patidar was born on June 01, 1993, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He comes from a family of businesspeople but was drawn towards cricket from a young age. He started playing cricket when he was just 8 years old and was later enrolled in an academy by his grandfather. Initially, Patidar started his career as a bowler, but he later shifted his focus towards batting after reaching the U-15 level.
After completing his primary and secondary education at New Digamber Public School in Indore, Rajat Patidar went on to graduate from Indore University.
Patidar is a right-handed top-order batter and is known for his aggressive batting style. He has the ability to score runs quickly and can build solid partnerships with his teammates. In addition to his batting skills, Patidar can also bowl off-spin with his right arm. On October 30, 2015, Rajat Patidar made his debut in first-class cricket during the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy. Later on January 8, 2018, he made his Twenty20 debut for Madhya Pradesh in the 2017-18 Zonal T20 League.
During the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy, Patidar emerged as the leading run-scorer for Madhya Pradesh with 713 runs in eight matches. In August 2019, he was selected to represent the India Blue team in the 2019-20 Duleep Trophy.
In the IPL auction held in February 2021, Patidar was picked up by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 2021 Indian Premier League. However, he could only manage to score 71 runs in the four games he played and was subsequently released by the team ahead of the 2022 IPL.
After being unsold in the 2022 IPL Player Auction, Rajat Patidar was later signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore mid-season for INR 20 Lakhs as a replacement for the injured Luvnith Sisodia. In the Eliminator match held on May 25, 2022, Patidar played a match-winning innings of 112* (54) against Lucknow Super Giants, which proved to be a record-breaking performance.
He became the first uncapped player to score a century in the playoffs stage of the Indian Premier League and also equaled the record of Wridhiman Saha by scoring a joint-fastest century (49 balls) in the playoffs stage. He ended the 2022 season with 333 runs in just 8 matches at an average of 55.50, including a century and 2 half-centuries. As a result, he was retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the 2023 Indian Premier League.
Patidar’s domestic season and impressive performances in the 2022 IPL season earned him a spot in the One-Day International (ODI) squad for the series against South Africa in October. He was later named in the ODI squad against New Zealand in February 2023 as an injury replacement for Shreyas Iyer. However, he did not make it to the playing eleven on both occasions and is yet to make his international debut.
