The Manchester City patriarch and one of the most iconic football managers ever, Pep Guardiola and his long-time wife Cristina Serra have reportedly head for a splitsville as per a report first published by Spanish journalists. The decision was apparently made in December itself but kept as an insider information to avoid becoming a public gossip piece.
The preliminary reason behind their shocking divorce news is speculated to be Pep’s new contract with Etihad, the owner of Manchester City FC. The famous Spanish press duo ‘Mamarazzi’ were the first ones to break the news in the global press, citing that Guardiola’s decision to turn back on quitting Britain and heading to his home city has been delayed further until 2027 contract.
Ever since Pep’s wife Cristina moved back to Barcelona in 2019 along with her children from Manchester to focus on her business pursuits and professional growth, their marriage came under the radar and rumours of an underlying crisis started to emerge.
Despite shifting her base to a new place, until the summers of 2024 the couple used to make efforts to travel and meet like normal people would. Until their separation news became public, the people around the couple thought they would reunite once he terminates his contract and moves back to the family.
Albeit the decision to stay for few more years and extend his contract longer made Cristina decide to forego her marriage of over a decade and move ahead in life. Her personal thoughts of feeling less prioritized and Pep choosing the club over the family made her take this bold step, a move unimaginable after so many years of marital life.
For the uninitiated, the couple met in 1994 and got married after a significant period of courtship in 2014. As per the reports published by the international media, the estranged couple continue to share a cordial and an affectionate relationship, as the reason for their potential divorce is not a third person but their personal differences that are beyond reconciliation.
No separation news is ever positive, but we only hope things turn out amicable and healthy in the long run for the individuals involved.
