During a recent development which may sound a little uncanny, former Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger alleged Man City head coach Pep Guardiola for degrading the football of Germany’s national team.
His statement has come about a month after Guardiola became the only manager to win the European treble twice. Pep’s first Treble as head coach came in 2009 when he was in charge of FC Barcelona. His (2nd) most recent treble came with Manchester City when they defeated Inter Milan at Istanbul to win their first ever UCL trophy as well.
The style of play and methods Pep Guardiola injected for the past 7 years has delivered massive success at the blue half of Manchester and the 2022/23 season is a prime example of his sheer genius. Every season he tries something new to outclass his competitors and to score more and more goals.
Many would argue that there will never be a manager like him. A serial winner with a crazy obsession for Footballing tactics which has seen him win 34 trophies as head coach of 3 Clubs – FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
But retired 2014 FIFA World Cup winner with Germany Bastian Scheinsteiger agrees to disagree that his purist ways are always correct and successful.
Schweinsteiger says Pep Guardiola made German football lose its strength
During a recent interview with Talksport, Schweinsteiger said that it is because of Pep Guardiola that German football lost its strength and its values got diminished. As we all know, Guardiola’s tactics majorly includes rigorous passing and positional play and its something that hasn’t served German football well.
โThere has been a lot of change when Pep Guardiola came to the country everybody believed we had to play this type of football. We were kinda losing our values. We lost our strengths over the last 7 years. We were more focussed on nice passing.โ
Is Bastian Schweinsteiger right to claim this?
