OFFICIAL: Inter Milan sign midfielder Christian Eriksen from Tottenham

Inter Milan have completed the signing of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen for a fee of around £16.9m. The Denmark international has signed a contract that will run till 30 June 2024.

The 27-year-old midfielder had joined Spurs from Ajax in 2013 for £11.5m and went on to appear 304 times for the club over the last seven seasons, scoring 69 goals in the process.

However, soon after their loss at the hands of Liverpool in the final of the 2019 Champions League match, the former Spurs player admitted that he “would like to try something new”.

He was earlier linked with Manchester United and Real Madrid, however, no move for the midfielder was made by the clubs.

However, Inter over the last few months were interested in the midfielder and the Nerazzurri have now confirmed Eriksen’s signing, making him their third addition this January after the arrival of Ashley Young and Victor Moses.

The playmaker could be in line to make his debut in a Serie A clash away at Udinese this weekend, but is not likely to feature in Wednesday’s Coppa Italia clash against Fiorentina.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho had previously expressed his frustration over the Denmark international’s transfer saga, insisting “this situation shouldn’t happen” at such a late stage in the winter window.

However, the former Real Madrid boss had praised Eriksen for his professionalism and even suggested that he should leave the club with “his head held high”.

Speaking about the move, Eriksen said, “I’m very excited and can’t wait to introduce myself to the fans. I’ve already experienced their warmth, it’s been a fantastic welcome. I feel great.”

“The numbers say that I did really well in England. It’s now time to start a new challenge, I’m really happy to have the opportunity to play in Serie A for a big team. Inter is a fantastic club.”

Inter through their official twitter page, has announced that Eriksen would be wearing jersey number 24 at San Siro based club.

Inter currently sit second in Serie A, three points behind leaders Juventus.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have made midfielder Giovani Lo Celso’s loan move from Real Betis permanent, completing a £27.2m transfer.
