Murali Karthik expresses disappointment over a discarded Indian batsman’s IPL snub

Former India bowler Murali Kartik on Saturday expressed anger over Manoj Tiwary’s fate at the Indian Premier League (IPL) players’ auction which were held in Kolkata on December 19. The auction saw Tiwary going unsold for the second consecutive year while other in-form domestic players like Subramaniam Badrinath and Pragyan Ojha also finding no takers.

“I don’t tweet a lot, this is somewhat late since the auctions were a few days ago, but can’t understand how players like @tiwarymanoj not be picked, these are guys who have given everything for the franchise they played for.other players who come to mind @s_badrinath & @pragyanojha,” Kartik tweeted.

In the past, Tiwary has represented Delhi Daredevils, his home team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rising Pune Supergiants and Kings XI Punjab. Ojha, on the other hand, has played for Mumbai Indians and Deccan Chargers and in fact he had also won the Purple Cap for bagging the most wickets in 2010.

In a recent interview with Cricinfo, Tiwary had said that he is still hopeful of a comeback in the Indian cricket team. “Age is obviously just a number. Priorities, as far as professional life is concerned – I want my performances to be better than they were previous season. And also keep performing to the best of my ability and make sure that my consistency rate is there all the time. And I believe deep down that one season of Ranji Trophy can again bring that luck back to me, as far as being picked for India is concerned,” Tiwary told ESPNCricinfo.

“And also to get an opportunity in the IPL as well. Last year I could not make a team, so obviously IPL is a very big platform. I’m hoping that somebody gives me an opportunity in their side,” he said.

The 34-year-old has played 12 ODIs and three T20Is for India from which he scored 287 and 15 runs respectively.
