Mirra Andreeva Wins Big at Indian Wells, Beats Top Player Aryna Sabalenka

Mirra Andreeva, a 17-year-old tennis player from Russia, won the Indian Wells tournament. She beat Aryna Sabalenka, who is the number one ranked player in the world. This is a big win for Andreeva. She won her second big tournament, called a WTA 1000 title.

Mirra Andreeva had a tough start to the match, but she didn’t give up. She won with scores of 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. This is her first win against Aryna Sabalenka on a hard court. Also, she now has 19 wins and only 3 losses in 2025.

Last month, Andreeva became the youngest player to win a 1000-level tournament in Dubai. Now, this win will make her number six in the world rankings. She is also the woman with the most wins on the WTA tour this year.

“I want to thank myself for fighting until the end,” Andreeva said. “I was running a lot because Aryna was hitting the ball very hard, and it was hard to keep up.”

The match had many ups and downs. But Andreeva played well in the end. She won the match point with a good return and a strong forehand shot.

“I just tried to get the return in, no matter how,” she said. “Then I saw the ball and decided to go for it.”

This win is special because Andreeva had lost to Sabalenka twice this year. Sabalenka had also reached the final without losing a set. She was disappointed because she wanted to win her third title in a row.

“It was me against me,” Sabalenka said. “I made many mistakes on important points, and I let her play better. I was angry with myself.”

In the first set, Andreeva had chances to win points, but she couldn’t. Sabalenka took advantage and won the first set easily.

“I was angry because I had many chances and didn’t take them,” Andreeva said. She also had trouble winning points on Sabalenka’s serve.

“I just tried to win one more game each time she served,” Andreeva said. “Somehow, I came back, and we went to the third set.”

Finally, Andreeva won a game on Sabalenka’s serve in the second set. She played better and hit more winning shots. She won the second set.

In the third set, Andreeva kept playing well. She won Sabalenka’s serve again. Even though Sabalenka won a game back, Andreeva won another game and kept her lead. She played well and won the match.
