Manchester City faces West Ham United in the Premier League clash on Sunday. West Ham hope to escape the Premier League relegation zone, but they’re likely to have a hard time doing so against Manchester City on Sunday.

Manchester City

Last weekend saw Manchester City take yet another blow in this difficult season for the defending champions, with a 2-0 loss at Tottenham leaving them a massive 22 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool. It’s now just a matter of when the title will be heading to Merseyside.

The Citizens’ season is far from over though. Alongside the trio of cups they’re still involved in, they have a very real battle with Leicester for the runners up spot in the Premier League.

That being said, they shouldn’t find the competition too tough on Sunday. They have won six of their last eight home Premier League games and are fully expected to saunter to another victory at the Etihad here.

West Ham United

The reason for that is quite simple – West Ham are in dreadful shape right now. The Hammers let a two goal lead slip last weekend to draw 3-3 with Brighton, extending their winless run to five Premier League games and leaving their expensively constructed squad 18th in the table.

West Ham’s home ground, the London Stadium, has long been a troubling point for Hammers fans. However, their poor form unsurprisingly extends to their trips away from the maligned stadium too – they have lost six of their last eight Premier League away games, failing to find the net on four occasions and conceding 14 goals.

A look into these teams’ recent meetings continues to favour the hosts as well. Manchester City have won their last seven Premier League matches against West Ham, scoring 23 goals and conceding just three at the other end. The Hammers have also lost 11 of their 13 league games at the Etihad, so a Manchester City win is looking very likely indeed.

Man City: Ederson; Walker, Fernandinho, Otamendi, Mendy; De Bruyne, Rodri, D Silva; Mahrez, Aguero, B Silva.

West Ham: Fabianski; Fredericks, Diop, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Rice; Snodgrass, Noble, Soucek, Bowen; Haller.

MCI VS WHU: Best players

Man City: Riyad Mahrez

With Raheem Sterling expected to miss the visit of West Ham, there will be a lot of expectation on Riyad Mahrez to provide the creative spark from the wing. And that’s something he is more than capable of.

Mahrez has been directly involved in 14 Premier League goals this season despite not being a regular starter at Man City and has stepped up his game in recent weeks, with Sterling out of form.

The Algerian’s technical ability will be key for Man City’s onslaught on the West Ham defence, which will undoubtedly be set up to suck the life out of the game.

Key stat: Riyad Mahrez is one of just four players to score at least seven goals and record seven assists in the Premier League this season.

West Ham: Jarrod Bowen

West Ham needed something new up front to try and keep their Premier League spot and that’s exactly what they have with Jarrod Bowen.

The 23-year-old, a January signing from Hull City, blew the Championship away in the first half of the season, scoring 16 goals and adding seven assists – truly the Tigers’ key man.

But now he has a bigger task on his hands, with very little time to get comfortable. It’s up to Bowen to build an understanding with the likes of Sebastien Haller and what better place to make an instant impact than at the Etihad.

Key stat: Jarrod Bowen was directly involved in 24 goals in 32 games for Hull City this season, before signing for West Ham.
