Liverpool faces West Ham in Monday night’s Premier League clash at Anfield. Liverpool look to move one step closer to the Premier League title when they face a struggling West Ham side on Monday.

Liverpool

Liverpool suffered a potentially devastating first leg defeat at Atletico Madrid last week to put their Champions League defence into doubt, but there is absolutely no doubting their chances of lifting the Premier League.

The Reds come into this game having dropped just two points all season, holding a monumental 22 point lead over Manchester City and knowing it would take an utter catastrophe for this year’s Premier League title to end up anywhere other than Anfield.

Ridiculously, Jurgen Klopp’s men have won their last 17 league games on the trot, and they’re undefeated in league competition since their very first match of 2019. Things are even more impressive at Anfield, where they have won 20 matches in a row and haven’t lost since a shock defeat to Crystal Palace all the way back in 2017.

West Ham United

Unsurprisingly, West Ham aren’t being given much of a chance here. The expensively assembled Hammers are on a six match unbeaten streak and find themselves 18th in the table, a point adrift of Aston Villa on the edge of the safe zone.

They may have splashed the cash in recent years, but West Ham have been utterly dreadful at times. They have lost 14 of their 26 league games this season, and away from home they have avoided defeat in just two of their last nine Premier League outings.

Things are unlikely to get much better in the near future. They have away games against Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs coming up before the end of March and hostings of Wolves and Chelsea still to play, so relegation is looking a very real possibility at the moment.

Their problems, for the most part, lie in their toothless attack. They have failed to score in five of their last nine league away days and have netted just 0.76 goals per game on the road this season. Now, they’re coming up against a Liverpool side that have proven to be ruthlessly efficient over the last few months.

Indeed, the hosts’ early season defensive issues are now but a distant memory. They have kept a clean sheet in 10 of their last 11 Premier League outings, and they haven’t conceded a league goal at Anfield since the start of December. To make matters worse for West Ham, they have failed to score in 31 of their last 46 away league games against Liverpool, so backing a Liverpool Win to Nil looks a fantastic option.

As we mentioned, the hosts have been efficient rather than devastating recently. They have netted exactly two goals in six of their last 10 home games in the league and three of their last five at Anfield have ended 2-0. With West Ham losing 2-0 on three occasions away from home this season, we think a 2-0 correct score prediction is a good choice.

LIV VS WHU: Predicted starting lineup

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Wijnaldum, Fabinho, Keita; Mane, Salah, Firmino.

West Ham: Fabianski; Zabaleta, Diop, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Rice, Soucek, Snodgrass; Bowen, Antonio, Haller.

LIV VS WHU: Best players

Liverpool: Fabinho

The Brazilian was arguably Liverpool’s best player before he sustained a two-month injury towards the end of November. He hasn’t quite got back up to speed just yet, so this match has come at the perfect time for him.

Moyes’ side showed an unwillingness to attack against Man City on Wednesday — and that is unlikely to change against an even more formidable opponent — with Rodri completing more passes than the entire West Ham team combined, so expect another comfortable performance for the defensive midfielder.

Key stat: Fabinho has registered more tackles per 90 minutes (2.84) than any other Liverpool player in the Premier League this season (15+ app).

West Ham: Jarrod Bowen

Moyes simply has to change his approach for these big games rather than taking to the field with a ‘damage limitation’ mentality. To omit his only creative players from the start against City (Pablo Fornals, Manuel Lanzini, Jarrod Bowen and Felipe Anderson) and play a back-five has caused further unrest amongst an already despondent fanbase.

By inviting such pressure against a side with the treasure trove of world-class quality at Pep Guardiola‘s disposal was suicide, and the result proved it as City eventually breached Lukasz Fabianski’s net and walked to victory. A similar line-up will yield a similar result, so it’s time for Moyes to be bold and throw his new recruit into the mix from the off.

Key stat: West Ham failed to register a single shot on target against Man City on Wednesday.
