Football fans around the world were clueless after Lionel Messi pulled off a new celebration of his own as he scored 2 goals during Inter Miami’s recent 4-0 win over Atlanta United in the Leagues cup. Messi made a gesture of holding something, which people interpreted as the sign for “Hold my beer”.

His heroics included 2 goals and an assist to one of Robert Taylor’s 2 goals. Messi is yet to make his Debut for Miami in Major League Soccer but it it will be fair to say that the Argentine has well and truly announced himself. His performances in the Leagues Cup (3 goals, 1 assist in 2 appearances) is a perfect example as to what people can expect from him.

On Wednesday against Atlanta, Messi started his first game and also donned the Captain’s arm band. After completing his brace, he ran and stood with his hands towards the sidelines, where David Beckham was also sitting. Many suggested that it was to show Beckham that he has arrived but Antonella Rocuzzo, the wife of Lionel Messi has revealed what the celebration actually was.

Rocuzzo posted Messi’s goal celebration on her Instagram story with a sticker of Thor. Antonela disclosed that Messi was making gestures in the direction of his sons Thiago, Ciro, and Mateo, who were present among the spectators. It came to light that Thiago is a huge admirer of Marvel, particularly fond of the character Thor.

Thus, Messi was honoring the mighty Asgardian god of thunder by extending his hand, as if anticipating the arrival of Thor’s iconic hammer. Meanwhile the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner on August 2 for the Round of 32 of Leagues Cup.
