Lampard takes a dig at Mourinho for allowing Salah, De Bruyne leave Chelsea

Chelsea gaffer Frank Lampard has taken a dig at former manager Jose Mourinho for selling the likes of Mohamed Salah and Kevin de Bruyne while being in charge at Stamford Bridge. Lampard himself, however, has given opportunities to youngsters at the club this season.

The Blues defeated Tottenham 2-0 this Sunday after which both the managers have been involved in the war of words amongst themselves.

Brazilian winger Willian’s brace helped Chelsea win the London derby and solidify their place in the top four.

After the match, Lampard heaped praise on the performances of Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham while simultaneously taking a dig at Mourinho in saying he didn’t want the club to end up in a position where they are selling players who go on to become the best in the Premier League.

Lampard referred to Salah who is now starring at Liverpool with De Bruyne playing a pivotal role at Manchester City.

Lampard said: “If we’re not patient and if we don’t stick with the players, we might end up in a situation like we were before where the absolute top, world-class players at this moment were at Chelsea when they were 20, 21 and managers didn’t stick with them so much then.

“I’m in a position where I’m going to stick with them.”

Lampard further hailed his team after their dominating performance against Spurs and claimed to be the best performance from his side this season.

He explained: “I think it was. The Ajax away game was a different type of game that we dealt with brilliantly on the night.

“Going to Tottenham in good form, direct rival, ourselves under slight pressure because of recent form, the character, the strength, the fight in the team on top of the way we approached the game and controlled it from start to finish, makes it our best performance.”

Chelsea returns to action on Boxing Day when they take on Southampton in their own den.
