Jasprit Bumrah Returns to Top in Test, Yashasvi Jaiswal Soars
The world of Test cricket has witnessed a significant shake-up, with India’s Jasprit Bumrah reclaiming the top spot among bowlers and young Yashasvi Jaiswal making a meteoric rise in the batting rankings. Bumrah’s stellar performance against Bangladesh in Kanpur, where he picked up six wickets, has propelled him back to the top of the ICC Test bowling rankings.
Replacing his teammate R Ashwin, who had held the top spot for a while, Bumrah’s return to the number one position is a testament to his exceptional skills and consistency. This is his second stint at the top, having previously occupied the spot in February of this year. Notably, he became the first-ever Indian fast bowler to achieve this feat, surpassing the highest ranking of Kapil Dev, who reached number two in 1979-80.

Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal has created quite a stir with his remarkable ascent in the batting rankings. Having played only 11 Tests, Jaiswal has managed to climb to the third position. His Player of the Match performance in the Kanpur Test, where he showcased his batting prowess, has earned him this well-deserved recognition.
Another significant mover in the rankings is Sri Lanka’s left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya. Having played just 16 Tests, Jayasuriya has climbed to the joint-seventh position among bowlers. His outstanding performances in Sri Lanka’s 2-0 series win over New Zealand have propelled him up the rankings.
Other notable moves include Virat Kohli’s return to the top 10 among batters. Kohli, who scored 47 and 29 not out in Kanpur, has moved up six places to the sixth position. Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis, who scored an unbeaten 182 in the second Test against New Zealand, has climbed to number 11 in the batting rankings.
Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz has also made significant strides, moving up to the fifth position among all-rounders. This achievement places him among the top five all-rounders in the world, alongside his illustrious teammate Shakib Al Hasan, who holds the third position.
