Former Namibian cricketer Andries Johannes Burger, sometimes known as Jan-Berry Burger, was born on August 25, of the year 1981. Jan-Berry Burger first played internationally for the cricket team of Namibia in the month of February of the year 2003. Jan-Berry Burger played for Namibia’s inaugural World Cup team as well as its inaugural One Day International (ODI) team.
Personal Life
In South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province, Jan-Berry Burger was born in Newcastle. Jan-Berry Burger was raised in Pretoria before leaving for Namibia at the age of 16 with his father. But in the year 2000, Jan-Berry Burger went back to South Africa and enrolled in the Free State Cricket Academy. Additionally, Jan-Berry Burger continued his schooling at Stellenbosch University.

Domestic Career
Jan-Berry Burger also represented Knowle and Dorridge Cricket Club in the Birmingham and District Premier League. In the Sussex Cricket League, Jan-Berry Burger also represented Horsham Cricket Club.
International Career
At the 2000 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka, Jan-Berry Burger led the Namibian national under-19 cricket team. Jan-Berry Burger was a member of the Namibian team that finished second to the Netherlands in the 2001 ICC Trophy, qualifying Namibia for the 2003 World Cup.
When Jan-Berry Burger was 21 years old and enrolled at South Africa’s Stellenbosch University to pursue a degree in human resource management, Jan-Berry Burger was selected to play for Namibia in the 2003 Cricket World Cup. The university gave Jan-Berry Burger permission to participate in the 2003 Cricket World Cup, Namibia’s first-ever World Cup appearance. It was also Namibia’s first-ever One Day International (ODI) match and first-ever World Cup match when Jan-Berry Burger made his One Day International (ODI) debut against hosts and neighboring Zimbabwe during the same year’s World Cup competition. Jan-Berry Burger incidentally earned Namibia’s first One Day International (ODI) cricket cap.
Jan-Berry Burger opened the batting in a huge run chase of 273 against England during a group stage game, scoring 85 in as many as 86 deliveries with 10 fours and one six. Jan-Berry Burger also made history by becoming the first batsman from Namibia to achieve a half-century in a World Cup match as well as an One Day International (ODI) fifty. Despite Andries Johannes Burger’s heroic efforts, Namibia fell short of the target by 55 runs but was still able to compete valiantly against England throughout the game. Despite the fact that his innings resulted in a defeat for Namibia, Andries Johannes Burger was named player of the match and became the first Namibian to do so in One Day International (ODI) cricket. In the game, Andries Johannes Burger and Danie Keulder established an important 97-run partnership off 108 balls for the third wicket, giving Namibia some hope in the run chase. For 16 years, Andries Johannes Burger was the Namibian batsman with the greatest individual One Day International (ODI) score before Jean-Pierre Kotze beat him in 2019.
At the 2004 ICC Intercontinental Cup, Andries Johannes Burger made his first-class debut for Namibia against Kenya on October 1. Andries Johannes Burger participated in the 2005 ICC Trophy as well as the 2004 ICC Six Nations Challenge as Namibia’s captain. Andries Johannes Burger also competed for Namibia in the 2011 ICC World Cricket League Division Two, when they finished second against United Arab Emirates (UAE).
