IPL 2021 will go as planned before reveals board president Sourav Ganguly

BCCI President and former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly clarified that despite rising in COVID-19 cases in India in the last few days it will have no impact on IPL and the cash rich league will start from 9th April 2021 as it was decided before.

There were a lot of reports circulating that Hyderabad can be used as a backup venue option in case lockdown happens in Mumbai due to the rise in COVID-19 cases but the board president said that we will be organizing the league stage match of IPL 2021 in Mumbai and players and support staff living inside the bubble has been told to follow the health protocol.

“Everything will go as scheduled,” said Ganguly while taking to Times now.

The statement came in response to a press release by Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Nawab Malik mentioning that Maharashtra will go under strict lockdown From Friday 8 pm to Monday 7 am.

“A cabinet meeting took place today and some important decisions were taken related to COVID-19. Strict rules have been made and they will be enforced from 8 pm tomorrow. The night curfew will be in force from 8 pm to 7 am. During the daytime, section 144 will be in force from tomorrow prohibiting more than five people to gather at one place.

“A decision has been taken to shut down malls, restaurants, bars. Take away services will continue. Essential services will be allowed. Government offices will open with 50 percent capacity. Industries will continue,” he stated

“A decision has also been taken to impose strict lockdown from 8 pm on Friday to 7 am on Monday in Maharashtra. The decision has been taken after consultations,” he added.

As Ganguly confirmed that it will have no impact on the matches that are aligned to be held in Mumbai where the commercial capital of India will be hosting 10 matches starting from April 10th to April 25th, 2021.

 In the meantime, amidst the pandemic, BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla also called for the players to get vaccinated.
