Indian Olympic Association gets Rs 8.5 crore boost from BCCI for Paris Olympics
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has extended its financial backing to the Indian contingent competing in the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced a contribution of Rs 8.5 crore to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to support the athletes in their quest for Olympic glory.
The number of athletes representing India in Paris will be slightly lower compared to the Tokyo Olympics, but the overall size of the contingent has increased. This is due to a significant rise in the number of coaches and support staff accompanying the athletes.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) confirmed the final list, revealing that 117 athletes will be competing in Paris. This number is complemented by a 140-strong support staff, bringing the total contingent size to 257. Notably, the Tokyo Olympics saw a contingent of 228, including 121 athletes.
I am proud to announce that the @BCCI will be supporting our incredible athletes representing #India at the 2024 Paris Olympics. We are providing INR 8.5 Crores to the IOA for the campaign.
To our entire contingent, we wish you the very best. Make India proud! Jai Hind! 🇮🇳…

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in a letter to IOA chief PT Usha, clarified the arrangements for the support staff. Considering limitations set by the Paris Organizing Committee, 67 support personnel will be accommodated within the Games Village. An additional 72 coaches and support staff will be funded by the government but will stay outside the Village.
A significant change from the Tokyo Olympics is the improved ratio between athletes and support staff. IOA chief PT Usha highlighted this as a deliberate effort, stating, “We have strived to change the usual 3:1 ratio between athletes and support staff to a slightly better than 1:1 ratio.” This increased support aims to provide Indian athletes with the best possible resources to excel at the Games.
A closer look at the confirmed list of support staff reveals a focus on specific sports. Athletics and shooting, which boast a combined total of 50 athletes (including reserves), will have the most support staff of 35 members. Notably, the shooting will see a record-breaking contingent of 21 athletes accompanied by 18 officials. Similarly, wrestling, with a 6-member team, will have 12 support staff members. This targeted allocation of resources ensures athletes receive specialized assistance crucial for success in their respective disciplines.
With the BCCI’s financial backing and a well-structured support system in place, the Indian contingent appears well-equipped to make a strong showing at the Paris Olympics 2024. The contingent will be looking to surpass their performance in Tokyo and bring home a record number of medals for India.
