Indian Bowlers Failed Miserably Against Australia In First Inning

The Indian bowlers failed miserably against Australia in the World Test Championship final at the Oval, as the Australian batters put on a mammoth total of 469 in their first innings. Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur all took wickets, but they were unable to restrict the Australian batsmen, who scored at will on a grassy pitch.

Australia’s openers, David Warner and Usman Khawaja could not form a solid partnership as Siraj dismissed Khawaja at 0 in early succession. However, Warner and Marnus Labuschagne stood tall and gradually headed the inning. Warner with his 43-run inning fell prey to Thakur. Labuschagne strived but was bowled out by Shami at a score of 26.

After the failure of the top-order batters, middle-order batsman Steve Smith and Travis Head stood on the wicket and went on to amass 285 runs together. Smith made 121 whilst Head smashed 163 runs.

Australia’s tailenders then rallied, with Alex Carrey scoring 48 and captain Cummins making 9 runs contribution, to help their team reach 469 before being all out in the first of WTC final.

Indian Bowlers initially showed warmth as they broke the waist of the top-order batsmen in early succession. Siraj and Shami shined initially but as their middle order stepped in and the ball got rough, the bowling became ineffective. Even Spinners could not restrict the Australian batters to put on the gigantic total of 469 runs.

What Went Wrong for The Indian Bowlers?

The weather played a major role in the final, affecting the bowling especially. There were a number of factors that contributed to the Indian bowlers’ failure. Firstly, the pitch was flat and offered little assistance to the bowlers. Secondly, the Australian batsmen played some excellent shots and were able to score runs at will. Thirdly, the Indian bowlers made a number of errors, including bowling too many short-pitched deliveries and overstepping the line.
