England to postpone the limited-overs series against India to next year due to IPL 2020

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has decided to postpone its limited-overs series against India which is scheduled to take place in September this year. The board has taken this decision and pushed the series to next year, keeping in mind the ongoing pandemic and Indian Premier League.

The BCCI is also trying its best to stage the IPL 2020 this year (likely outside India) and they are looking for September-October window as a primary slot for conducting the cash-rich league.

England team were to play three ODIs and as many T20Is against India from the mid-September. The ODI series was supposed to mark the inaugural of the 2020–22 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. The T20I series would have formed their base for preparation ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia.

As per the reports, the T20 World is also likely to get postponed, forming a window for the BCCI to stage the IPL and even the ECB has agreed to push the series to the next year if the scenario turns true.

The sources also stated that the limited-overs series could be easily clubbed with England’s five-Test series in India early next year.

The ICC is yet to decide the final fate of the T20 World Cup and hopefully, they do it in their next board meeting next week or so.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly also stressed on conducting the IPL this year, maybe in India but also didn’t rule out the possibility of conducting the event outside the country.
