David Warner may find himself subject to disciplinary action by the ICC following his furious reaction to his dismissal in Australia’s win against Sri Lanka. Warner appeared to be in exceptional form at the start of the match, hitting a six and a four off Lahiru Kumara’s first over in Australia’s innings. However, his explosive start was abruptly halted by the first ball of the fourth over.
Sri Lanka’s Dilshan Madushanka delivered a ball that didn’t bounce as high as Warner expected, causing it to collide with his pads. Although Warner tried to adjust, the ball deflected off his pads. There was a question as to whether the ball might have missed the leg stump, but Sri Lanka vehemently appealed, and umpire Joel Wilson upheld the appeal, signaling Warner out.

David Warner opted for a review, confident that the ball had missed the stumps. Unfortunately for the 36-year-old, the review did not favor him, as the ball-tracking technology indicated that Madushanka’s delivery would have grazed the leg stump.
This meant that the umpire’s decision stood, and Warner had to depart after scoring just 11 runs from six deliveries. Clearly displeased with the decision, Warner appeared to voice his frustration as he left the field.

It’s worth noting that players can be fined for displaying “excessive, obvious disappointment with an umpire’s decision,” in accordance with the ICC’s Code of Conduct. After Warner’s dismissal, Sri Lanka quickly followed up by dismissing Steve Smith for a duck in the same over, leaving Australian fans worried about a potential third consecutive World Cup defeat.
However, Australia managed to stabilize their innings thanks to strong performances from Mitchell Marsh, Marnus Labuschagne, and Josh Inglis, ultimately securing a much-needed five-wicket victory to regain momentum in their World Cup campaign.
