Brighton hope to break out of their winless run in the Premier League when they face fellow south coast side Bournemouth today evening.

Brighton and Hove Albion FC

Brighton failed to capitalise on a first-half lead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Boxing Day as they succumbed to second half pressure from Jose Mourinho’s men, and while that defeat was somewhat expected it still comes with the disappointment of seeing them slip further down the Premier League table.

The Seagulls are now 15th in the table, just two points above the relegation zone and coming into this match on the back of a four match winless streak. They have won just one of their last eight league matches, with only one point from three home fixtures during this period.

Back in their debut Premier League season Brighton were saved from the drop by their excellent home record, but the last year has seen a marked shift in this respect. In fact, Brighton have lost more home Premier League games (nine) in 2019 than any other side. They have won four of their 18 attempts in this period, so it’s safe to say that the Amex Stadium hasn’t been the happiest place to be for the home fans.

AFC Bournemouth

Bournemouth aren’t exactly flying high, with a draw at home to Arsenal on Boxing Day leaving them 16th in the table, trailing Brighton on goals scored. They have only won one of their last eight top flight matches, but they’ll be hoping to end 2019 on a high against a team struggling almost as much as they are.

The Cherries have lost five of their nine Premier League away days this season, but it’s worth noting that four of these defeats came against teams currently residing in the top half of the table. Their other one was against Arsenal, while their three clashes with teams lower than 12th position have seen them collect seven points.

BHA VS BOU: Head-to-head

Bournemouth are unbeaten in the four Premier League meetings (3W, 1D) since Brighton earned promotion in 2017. This includes a 5-0 win in the same fixture last season.

It is also worth to note that Eddie Howe’s men scored at least 2 goals in each of those 4 h2h meetings.

The Cherries also boast of a record of netting in 7 consecutive visits to the Amex Stadium since 2004.

BHA VS BOU: Predicted starting lineup (XI)

Brighton: Ryan; Webster, Duffy, Burn; Schelotto, Alzate, Stephens, Bernardo; Gross, Mooy; Maupay.

Bournemouth: Ramsdale; Stacey, S.Cook, Mepham, Simpson; Fraser, L.Cook, Lerma, Gosling, King; Wilson.

BHA VS BOU: Best players

Brighton and Hove Albion

Brighton are really struggling at the moment, yet they still have a player in Pascal Gross, a set-piece specialist looks as though he can change a game on his own.

The Austrian was impressive in the defeat to Spurs and was instrumental in creating the goal for Webster thanks to another one of his exemplary deliveries. He will be an important figure for Graham Potters’ side as the Seagulls look to turn around another season of struggle.

Key stat: Since making it to the Premier League Pascal Gross has provided 15 assists for the Seagulls, at least eight more than any other Brighton player in the competition.

Bournemouth

Wilson is still a very important player for the Cherries even though he has not been as prolific in recent matches as he’d like. The England international could be the difference between Bournemouth being dragged into a relegation dogfight or securing mid-table mediocrity.

His five goals this season sees him behind only Harry Wilson in the Cherries scoring charts and if he can find his prolific edge during this busy period it could pull Eddie Howe’s side out of a difficult slump.

Key stat: Wilson has taken more shots from inside the penalty box (18) than any other Bournemouth player this season.
