Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Praises Mesut Ozil after a win over Manchester United

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal put forth an all-round performance at the Emirates Stadium on New Year’s Day against arch-rivals Manchester United and earned a 2-0 win.

Nicolas Pepe fired the home side to a lead and the match was put to the bed by Sokratis in the closing minutes of the first half.

Mesut Ozil’s immediate upward trajectory is a big positive in Arteta’s Arsenal. He has been performing brilliantly under the new boss and was immense yesterday against the Red Devils. Ozil was industrious and his work rate caught the eyes of many.

Apparently reports state that Arteta has been impressed with Ozil’s display and he was picked up by microphones telling Ozil: “Well done. Well played!” as he was left clearly delighted by what he saw from the playmaker.

Mikel Arteta also showered good praise on other team players including youngster Reiss Nelson, a second-half substitute, as well as Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Granit Xhaka.

The gaffer urged his played to salute the fans “together” as the Emirates celebrated a huge victory to kick-start a new era on a memorable note.

After the cessation of the game, Sokratis hailed the impact of Arteta’s arrival as a new Arsenal manager.

“Some things he has to change, I don’t say what he has to change,” he said.

“But when things are in a good way we are happy and I saw today and last week, the players are trying.

“The fun is back so we have to improve and get better and better”

“Yes, we came in for training and I think it’s good,” he continued.

“When I was in Germany when we had a game at night or in the afternoon, we came in for training. So I like it.”

It was a pivotal win for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal as they look to re-emerge as a top European side after a series of failures in the recent months.

As far as Premier League’s standings are considered, Arsenal sits 10th and is still very far away from challenging for the top four. Nonetheless, this very triumph over Red Devils could be a good foundation for them to march on and get the results out of the matches.
