Arsenal and Tottenham to lock horns for Djene Dakonam

According to the reports, Arsenal and Tottenham transfer target Djene Dakonam is available for £22m in January with Mikel Arteta and Jose Mourinho both looking at the Getafe star as an option to bolster their respective defenses. The center-back, who’s more commonly known by just his first name, has forged a reputation as one of La Liga’s top defensive performers and has been named in the Spanish top-flight’s team of the year for the past couple of years.

Dakonam has played 22 games in all competitions this season for the Spanish outfit, who are holding their own and challenging the top four. Now it appears his colossal displays at the back are finally garnering attention from English shores.

Djene-Dakonam-arsenal-transfer-targetMonaco has attempted to steal a march on the Premier League quartet by submitting a £12.8m bid earlier this month, but it was rejected by Getafe. On the other hand, Arsenal has tried to sign Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng and RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano who have been linked with Gunners for a long part of the time.

Arsenal is in the market for a center back with David Luiz and Sokratis regulars in a side that which have shipped 31 goals in the first half of the season, while Calum Chambers is injured for the foreseeable future and Shkodran Mustafi out of the picture. John Stones was previously linked with a move to the Emirates but their new manager Mikel Arteta ruled that transfer out.

Djene Dakonam has been on Arsenal’s radar for at least a year as Unai Emery, who was sacked by the Gunners in November, scouted the Togo international in action for Getafe last season. Dakonam, whose contract expires in 2023, is also capable of playing at right-back. It remains interesting to see that can any of the Premier League side complete the deal for the player or some other club will enter the fray to sign the player?
