Arsenal faces Everton in Sunday’s Premier League clash at the Emirates. Arsenal and Everton face off on Sunday as both teams look to push themselves into serious top four contention in the Premier League.

Arsenal

Arsenal clinched a potentially crucial 1-0 win away to Olympiakos on Thursday night to follow on from their 4-0 thrashing of Newcastle last weekend, and it’s clear to see that the squad is now reaping the dividends of Mikel Arteta’s influence.

The Gunners are unbeaten in nine competitive games now, winning five of them and putting themselves just seven points adrift of the Premier League top four. There’s a lot of work still to do, but Arsenal finally look like they’re on the right track.

Their form at the Emirates has started to improve too, with three wins and a draw from their last four competitive games allowing them to emerge from a dreadful seven match winless streak there.

Everton

Everton have also been showing massive signs of improvement under the guidance of Carlo Ancelotti, who has managed to pull them clear of the relegation battle and rocket them into contention for a top four spot. They sit one position above Arsenal and only five behind 4th place Chelsea.

That being said, the Toffees have had a relatively easy run of fixtures over the past couple of months. In fact, seven of their last eight league games have been against bottom half teams, and the one that wasn’t saw them lose 2-1 at Manchester City.

Everton’s record against Arsenal is definitely worth taking into account as well. They haven’t beaten Arsenal in any of their last 23 Premier League visits, with the last one coming back in 1996 at Highbury. 19 of these 23 games have ended in defeat for The Toffees, and considering Arsenal’s recent improvement we think backing another home win here is a good option.

Arsenal have also scored at least two goals in each of their last six competitive home games against Everton and have averaged 1.69 goals per league game at the Emirates this season. With Everton averaging 1.23 goals per away game, we think a 2-1 correct score prediction is the way to go.

ARS VS EVE: Head-to-head

Sunday’s meeting will represent the 204th competitive fixture between the two clubs, with Arsenal recording 106 wins in comparison to 61 victories for Everton.

Despite the wide deficit from an historical perspective, Everton are unbeaten in the last two contests, both of which have taken place at Goodison Park.

The Merseyside outfit have not defeated Arsenal in North London since January 1996, when Andrei Kanchelskis netted a late winner in a 2-1 triumph at Highbury.

ARS VS EVE: Predicted starting lineup

Arsenal: Leno; Bellerin, Mustafi, Luiz, Saka; Ceballos, Xhaka; Pepe, Ozil, Aubameyang; Nketiah.

Everton: Pickford; Coleman, Mina, Holgate, Digne; Sidibe, Sigurdsson, Delph, Bernard; Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison.

ARS VS EVE: Best players

Arsenal: Nicolas Pepe

It’s fair to say Nicolas Pepe, who became Arsenal’s record signing last summer, has not begun his Gunners career the way he would have wanted.

The 24-year-old Ivorian winger managed just one goal and two assists in his opening 10 league appearances, totalling 729 minutes. However, last time out against Newcastle United, we saw Pepe at his devastating best and Arteta will be hoping it’ll be a moment they’ll look back on as the start of something special.

Key stat: Nicolas Pepe was involved in three of Arsenal’s four goals against Newcastle United on matchday 26.

Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin

The absence of Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford means opportunity knocks for Danny Ings and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, both of whom have been in good scoring form of late.

This season, Calvert-Lewin has gone from being on the fringes to Everton’s most important forward alongside Richarlison, meaning David Luiz and company will likely have their hands full on Sunday.

Key stat: Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored 43% of Everton’s league goals under Carlo Ancelotti.
