WPL 2024 Highlights : RCB Triumphs Over Gujarat Giants by 4 Wickets

RCB WOMEN, WPL 2024

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) continued their winning ways in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) with a thrilling 4-wicket victory over the Gujarat Giants (GG) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Tuesday, February 27th.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore Women won the toss and chose to bowl. Sophie Molineux had an outstanding all-around effort, taking three wickets, but Renuka Singh’s early burst of two wickets was what swinging the contest in Bangalore’s side. Smriti Mandhana struck a magnificent 43 off only 27 balls as they attempted to chase 108 runs. Ellyse Perry and Sabbhineni Meghana also contributed to the effort with an undefeated 36. It was an impressive victory for RCB.

Tuesday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Renuka bowled a match-winning opening performance against Gujarat Giants, doubling her wicket total from 2023. Renuka put the Giants under pressure early in the game with figures of 2/14 in a four-over burst, from which they never recovered, scoring 107/7 in 20 overs. With Smriti Mandhana entertaining a boisterous audience with her greatest knock in the WPL so far, hitting a boundary-filled 43, it took RCB just 12.3 overs to hunt it down.

Bangalore displays supreme dominance as they easily win their second straight match with eight wickets and forty-five balls left. Gujarat, on the other hand, have suffered their second straight defeat despite their mediocre efforts with the bat and the ball. Bangalore simply did not allow Gujarat any breathing room, and they quickly upset the opposition bowlers thanks to Smriti Mandhana’s aggressiveness. Smriti Mandhana dealt in boundaries and took a flyer at first, punishing the bad deliveries left and right.

Sophie Devine was about to throttle when she was hit by a delivery that skidded and hurried her on the shot. Despite this, Smriti continued to play around with the field, and she was well-supported by Sabbhineni Meghana, who carried over from the previous game and increased the scoring rate even more. Following Smriti’s exit, Ellyse Perry assumed responsibility for a magnificent finale, enabling Banglore to experience their second triumph of the year.
