Ultimate Kho Kho: Gujarat becomes table topper by defeating Chennai; Mumbai Players beat Telugu Warriors

 

Pune, August 26, 2022: Gujarat Giants once again topped the points table by defeating Chennai Quick Guns by 6 points in the first season of Ultimate Kho Kho at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Mahalunge on Friday. In the second match of the day, Mumbai players beat Telugu Warriors by 8 points.

While Gujarat defeated Chennai by a margin of 50-44 on the back of their defenders under the leadership of Jagannath Das (14 bonus points), Mumbai defeated Wazir Durvesh Salunke (14 points) and Aveek Singha (8 points). Attacks and defenders (8 points) helped beat Yoddhas 54-46 to register their second win in the league. For Yoddhas, Avadhoot Patil scored 10, Arun Gunki scored 9 points. This is his third defeat in seven matches.

Warriors won the toss and asked to defend. In reply, Mumbai started with the powerplay to take a 9-0 lead but Prateek Wacker (2.46 min) and Anukul Sarkar (3.04 min) in the second batch managed to get four bonus points for the Yoddhas. Between consecutive fouls, the third batch of Yoddhas played 1.58 minutes and the fourth batch remained unbeaten. By the end of this turn, Mumbai was leading 22-4.


In reply, Yoddhas dismissed Mumbai’s first batch in 1.47 minutes to make the score 13-22. He then resorted to the powerplay as captain Vijay Hazare (2.44 minutes) and S. Sreejesh was on the mat. Sreejesh settled early but Hazare took the bonus. Then Gajanan Sengal (2.36 min) from the third batch also got the bonus. The first half was tied at 26-26.

In reply, Mumbai took a 33-26 lead by dismissing the first batch of Yoddhas in 2.02 minutes in the third turn. Then he dismissed the second batch in 1.56 minutes to take his lead to 39-26. Similarly, he dismissed the third batch in 1.43 minutes to take the lead to 47-26. By the end of this turn the score was 50-26.

The Yoddhas retaliated by dismissing the first batch of Mumbai in 1.31 minutes to make the score 34-50. Captain Hazare (2.46 min) and Abhishek Pathode (3.06 min) included in the second batch gave the team a bonus. After Hazare’s dismissal, Pathode took another bonus. Now the score was 54-40 and the chances of the Warriors to win were over.

Earlier, Gujarat registered a 50-44 win against Chennai. This is Gujarat’s fifth win in seven matches. He has 17 points in his account. This is Chennai’s fourth defeat in seven matches. They are at the fourth position in the six-team table with nine points. Jagannath (3.42 min) showed an amazing defense to give Gujarat six bonus points in the third turn.

Earlier, Sagar Potdar (2.51 min) and Nilesh Patil (3.06 min) earned him four bonus points from the first batch while Abhinandan Patil (3.03 min) in the middle of the powerplay also earned him four bonus points. In the attack, Suyash Gargate scored the highest 8 points for Gujarat while Ranjan Shetty and Akshay Bhangare took 7-7 points while Amit Patil scored the highest 10 points for Chennai. Amit (3.12 min) had earlier teamed up with Ramji Kashyap (2.41 min) to get the team four bonus points.

Gujarat won the toss and defended, making a good start in the first turn and taking 8 points as bonus. The first batch earned him four fours while the second batch earned him four more bonus points in the middle of the powerplay. From this turn, Chennai got 19 points from the attack.

In reply, Gujarat took the lead of 21-19 by moving the first two batches to Chennai. Gujarat then gave Madan an early walk in the powerplay but Amit Patil (3.12 min) and Ramji Kashyap (2.41 min) managed to get the team four bonus points. After the first half the score was 26-23 in favor of Gujarat.

In the third turn, Jagannath (3.42 minutes) showed an amazing defense to give Gujarat six bonus points. These 6 points put Gujarat in the lead again. Chennai, however, took a 42-32 lead by the end of the turn. Then after dismissing Chennai’s first batch in 2.21 minutes, Gujarat made the score 38-42 and then despite the batch bonus of Ram Mohan (2.40 minutes) in the middle of the powerplay, their victory was confirmed.

Six teams – Chennai Quick Guns, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Khiladiers, Odisha Juggernauts, Rajasthan Warriors and Telugu Warriors are participating in the first season of India’s first franchise based Kho Kho League.

Ultimate Kho Kho is promoted by Amit Burman in association with Kho Kho Federation of India. The final of India’s first franchise-based Kho-Kho league will take place on 4 September.
