‘Team India won’t suffer even if one big name retires’- Mohammad Shami praises India’s bench strength

Indian cricket has grown from strength to strength over the years and it is because of young talent who are coming through ranks and delivering for the national team whenever they get an opportunity.

The recent tour to Australia where India won the longest format of the game twice on Australian soil where the second series win came without the absence of their star-studded lineup which includes Kohli, Bumrah, Shami, and Jadeja.

Seamers like Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, and T Natarajan were included in the side and all of them grabbed the opportunity provided to them by both hands. 

Indian pace sensation Mohammad Shami is highly impressed with team bench strength stated that the current Indian team will not suffer even if one of the big names retires from the game as the youngsters are ready to take their place and carry forward the legacy.

“The youngsters will be ready to take over from us when our time (to retire) comes. The more they play, the better they will get. I think the transition will be very smooth whenever we are done with the game,” the 30-year-old said as quoted by India Today.

“The team won’t suffer even if one big-name retire. The bench is ready. Experience is always required and the youngsters will have that in due time. The trend of carrying net bowlers in the bubble environment has helped them massively and given them valuable exposure,” he added.

Further in the interaction, Shami hailed all the young rookies for performing exceptionally well in Australia in absence of experienced players in detail.

“Whoever comes in has an open mind, talks frankly, and is supremely confident. They are ready to bowl with the new ball or old ball. The way they performed in Australia shows their character.

“Beating Australia in Australia once is a very big achievement, we were able to do it twice, that too with no senior bowlers around. It has shown we can rely on the youngsters,” Mohammed Shami concluded.
