Mark Burgess is a former player in the New Zealand cricket team who was born on 17th July in the year 1944. He was also the captain of the New Zealand men’s international cricket team between the years 1978 and 1980. He was one of the significant players when New Zealand played its first One Day International match. He was basically a right-handed batsman who also bowled sometimes in right arm off break style. He played his last international test match against Australia in the year 1980 whereas his last ODI match was also against Australia in the year 1981.

Mark Gorden Burgess was raised in the suburbs of Auckland where he attended the Auckland Grammar school from 1958 till 1963. It was then when his talent in playing cricket was recognized and he became one of the members in the playing 11 of both cricket and soccer team.

In around 1970s, Mark Burgess joined a leading company named Britain Wynyard and Co. Ltd who was the wholesaler of sports goods. He began his career there as a sales executive and later became the promotions manager of the same company. His father was also a cricket who played in domestic cricket for Auckland and was also a team manager of the New Zealand International team in the year 1969. Mark also started playing for the Auckland team in the domestic cricketing environment at the age of 19.

Mark Burgess did not have to play for a long time in the domestic New Zealand cricket team as he got selected for the international team that was going to a short tour to Australia. This was due to his brilliant score of 270 at 33.75 which was done within 6 matches. His first test century was against Pakistan. He was the captain of the New Zealand cricket team when it reached semifinals in the 1979 World Cup but lost to England by 9 runs.
