Lasith Malinga reckons Bumrah might struggle after return from long-term injury

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is all set to make his return in international cricket after recovering from a long-term injury. India will play against Sri Lanka in the first T20I on Sunday and Bumrah is likely to make his return through this game. He has been out of action for the last few months due to a stress fracture in his back.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s T20I captain Lasith Malinga feels Bumrah will struggle after recovering from injury. He also suggested some precautions for the Indian pacer, who was away from cricket for the last four months.

“He’s got the skill and accuracy. But coming after the injury when you don’t play much cricket for the last four months, the bowlers struggle to get into the rhythm for the first few matches. We want to use that to our advantage. I can pass all the information on his attitude and bowling skills. But batsmen will have to be smart enough to handle him carefully,” he said.

Bumrah missed out on the series against South Africa, Bangladesh, and West Indies last year due to a stress fracture. He was declared fit to play in December by the team physio Nitin Menon and he was named in the squad for the T20I series against Sri Lanka soon after then.

At the training session on Friday, Bumrah announced his comeback with the royal fashion where he seen smashing stumps with the ball, with an absolute screamer.

The fiery fast bowler is also on verge of becoming India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is on Sunday as India square off against Sri Lanka in the first T20I. He has picked up 51 wickets so far in the shortest format of the game and now only two wickets away to surpass the joint-record held by Yuzvendra Chahal and R Ashwin, who both have 52 wickets in the format.

However, the leg-spinner might give a tough shot as he is likely to feature in the first T20I against Sri Lanka as well.
