JUST IN: BCCI confirms Suresh Raina’s retirement decision

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President S0urav Ganguly officiated the retirement of the all-rounder, Suresh Raina on Sunday. 

The BCCI confirmed Raina’s decision as they posted on the official Twitter account to praise the left-handed batsman with a caption:Nothing less than will suffice. @ImRaina leaves the international stage with some incredible milestones.”

Sourav Ganguly also praised the left-handed batsman for his accolades in the white-ball cricket for India. Raina had announced his retirement minutes after the former Indian skipper MS Dhoni called quits from the blue jersey. Dhoni had already announced his retirement from the Test cricket back in 2015.

In his statement, Ganguly confirmed that the 33-year-old officially conveyed his decision of retiring to the BCCI and went on to praise him by saying, “Suresh Raina has been one of the key performers in limited-overs cricket for India. Coming lower down the order and playing some of the match-winning knocks requires a lot of skill and talent. He along with Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni formed a solid middle order for India in ODIs. I wish him and his family all the very best,” 

Raina is currently with his Chennai Super Kings teammates in Chennai attending a pre-season camp at the MA Chidambaram Stadium ahead of IPL 2020. Raina has been one of the mains in the CSK caravan and his achievements for the Indian cricket team has been very significant. He was a part of all the ICC trophies winning side including the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions trophy in England. 

Besides, he is the first Indian batsman to have scored centuries in all the formats. He scored 5,615 runs in 226 ODI matches and 1,605  in 76 T20Is for India.
