Jake Fraser-McGurk delivers the quickest one-day century ever in Marsh One day cup
In the Marsh One-Day Cup, Jake Fraser-McGurk achieved a remarkable feat by smashing a world-record century in just 29 balls, setting a new record for the fastest one-day century in white-ball cricket. Tasmania had posted a formidable total of 9-435, and Fraser-McGurk kickstarted South Australia’s run chase in an extraordinary manner, surpassing AB de Villiers‘ previous record of 31 balls for the fastest one-day century.
This century was the fastest ever scored in a professional limited-overs match, and his fifty off 18 balls also became the quickest by an Australian in 50-over cricket.
The 21-year-old batsman remarkably needed just 11 deliveries to progress from 50 to 100. However, his blazing innings came to an end in the 12th over when he was caught on the mid-wicket boundary while facing Beau Webster’s off-spin.
At this point, Fraser-McGurk had already accumulated 125 runs from just 38 deliveries, which included a staggering 13 sixes and 10 fours, providing a solid foundation for his team, the Redbacks, who were at 1-172. This century marked his first in any professional format and came in only his fourth game for South Australia, having made the move from Victoria in search of greater opportunities.
His achievement was even more remarkable as he eclipsed the previous record for the fastest Australian domestic one-day century, which was held by Luke Ronchi and was achieved in 51 balls. Fraser-McGurk’s innings began with a single, but he quickly exploded in the second over bowled by Sam Rainbird, scoring 32 runs, including four sixes and two fours.
None of the Tigers’ bowlers were spared, and at one point, he smashed five consecutive sixes, reaching the hundred-run mark in the ninth over of the innings. When Fraser-McGurk was finally dismissed, his opening partner Henry Hunt was unbeaten on 39, having witnessed the incredible performance from close quarters.
