Everton faces Crystal Palace in Saturday’s Premier League clash at Goodison Park. Everton look to extend their unbeaten streak in the Premier League when they host Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Everton

Everton pulled off a miraculous comeback at Vicarage Road last week, coming from 2-0 down to beat Watford 3-2 despite playing the final 20 minutes with 10 men. There was a sense of togetherness that has been found lacking for the majority of this season, and it’s clear that Carlo Ancelotti has this squad moving in the right direction.

Indeed, they have lost just one Premier League match since Marco Silva was sacked back in December, and Carlo Ancelotti has led them to four wins, three draws and one defeat since his appointment on the 21st December.

This has seen the Toffees propelled up the Premier League table, leaving them 9th in the standings but just four points adrift of Spurs in 5th. They are only eight behind 4th place Chelsea as well, so nothing is out of the question at this stage of the season.

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace, so often renowned for their dreadfully slow starts to campaigns, have seen a reversal this year. They started the season very strongly, but that good form has slowly given way to frustration and the Eagles come into this game winless in their last six Premier League matches.

Their early season success does leave them in a relatively comfortable position, but Roy Hodgson will be eager to get back to winning ways and push for a comfortable mid-table finish this year.

One thing that hasn’t changed in the Crystal Palace camp is their inability to find the net. They have scored fewer than any other Premier League team this season, averaging just 0.88 goals per game. That being said, their 29 goals conceded does leave them with the joint 4th best defensive record, conceding the same amount of goals as both Manchester United and Manchester City.

The result of this has been plenty of low scoring games where Palace are involved. 10 of their last 12 league outings have seen fewer than three goals scored, as have six of their last seven on the road.

Ancelotti has managed to plug Everton’s defensive holes too, in turn bringing about a certain lack of excitement at Goodison Park. Just one of his four home matches in charge has yielded three or more goals, with an average of just 1.5 goals per game being scored in this period.

Two of these home matches have ended in 1-0 wins for the Toffees, and they have kept a clean sheet in each of their last three Premier League meetings with Crystal Palace. The Eagles have also lost each of their last two league games to nil.

Their last clash finished as a stalemate.

EVE VS CRY: Predicted starting lineup

Everton: Pickford; Sidibe, Mina, Holgate, Digne; Walcott, Schneiderlin, Sigurdsson, Iwobi; Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin.

Crystal Palace: Guaita; Ward, Tomkins, Cahill, Van Aanholt; Ayew, Kouyate, Milivojevic, McArthur, Zaha; Benteke.

EVE VS CRY: Best players

Everton: Mason Holgate

Having spent the second half of last season on loan at West Brom and struggling to get game time under Marco Silva this time around, Mason Holgate has totally reinvented himself under Ancelotti.

The 23-year-old has shown all the defensive solidity and composure in possession which made him such a prospect during his early years and, thus far, appears to have eradicated those silly mistakes which hampered his development.

Michael Keane will seriously struggle to regain his place in the starting XI between now and the end of the season, further hampering his faint Euro 2020 hopes.

Key stat: No Everton player has made more interceptions (12) or completed more passes (353) in the Premier League under Ancelotti than Holgate.

Crystal Palace: Wilfried Zaha

If Palace are to have any joy at Goodison Park, it’ll likely be on the break or via a set-piece.

Wilfried Zaha hasn’t been prolific in front of goal this season but he remains Hodgson’s most potent attacking threat with his mesmeric dribbling skills and ability to win fouls in key areas.

Djibril Sidibe and Lucas Digne love to get forward, so expect Zaha to try and exploit the space the France internationals leave.

Key stat: Only Adama Traore (133) has completed more dribbles than Zaha (120) in the Premier League this season.
