Brentford faces Leeds in Tuesday’s Championship fixture at Griffin Park. The hosts look to make it three wins on the bounce following Saturday’s victory over Middlesbrough.

Brentford

Brentford continued to establish themselves as play-off frontrunners last time out, as they got the better of Middlesbrough by three goals to two. Not only did the Bees show their usual effectiveness in the final third, they also showed great fighting spirit. Twice they were pegged back but dug deep to find the winner.

Griffin Park has been a joyful location for Brentford this term. They’ve won nine of 15 at home, scoring a pleasing 28 goals in the process. However, they were recently beaten by top-six opposition at this venue, losing by 1-0 to Nottingham Forest just a fortnight ago. Moreover, they’ve not exactly made a habit of battering top-half teams at home this term.

Brentford have won four of their six home games against teams currently residing above 13th place, though only one of those wins has been by more than a single goal. Meanwhile, in two games against teams currently in the top six, Brentford have scored just once.

Leeds United

As the business end of the campaign edges closer, Leeds’ fans are experiencing strong senses of déjà vu. Marcelo Bielsa’s men are the best footballing team in the division and it appeared for some time they would stride out in front and stay there.

However, much like last season, the wheels seem to be falling off. For all they’re a side that play a great game, Leeds have won just one of their last six, five of which they’ve lost. Such a run of form has landed them level on points with Fulham, currently in third.

In terms of form, Leeds have tailed off recently and do need to improve, but their overall travelling record remains pretty good. Only two teams have claimed more away points than Leeds this season, though their win record away against the better teams is slightly alarming. Bielsa’s promotion chasers have won just one of their seven away games against top-half opposition, while they’re yet to beat a top-six team on the road. There is also Leeds’ long-standing poor record in London to think about.

Brentford and Leeds may be two of the more flamboyant and attractive teams, though neither have made a habit of being involved in a great many high-scoring games.

Only 47% of Brentford’s home games have contained more than three goals, while three or more have been scored in just 38% of Leeds’ travelling fixtures. The fact both also rank very highly in several defensive areas fuels the selection further, while we are tipping a 1-1 draw as our correct score prediction.

BRE VS LU: Head-to-head

Leeds United have narrowly won the first head to head encounter this season at Elland Road 1-0. The only goal scorer was Nketiah ten minutes before the final whistle.

Interestingly, none out of the last nine meetings was won by the away team.

BRE VS LU: Predicted starting lineup

Brentford: Raya; Dalsgaard, Jeanvier, Pinnock, Henry; Jensen, Norgaard, Dasilva; Mbeumo, Watkins, Benrahma.

Leeds United: Casilla; Dallas, Ayling, Cooper, Berardi; White, Phillips, Klich; Harrison, Hernandez, Bamford.

BRE VS LU: Best players

Brentford: Said Benrahma

The Championship has had its fair share of showmen in recent years: Adel Taarabt, Wilfried Zaha, Yannick Bolasie and, more recently, Eberechi Eze. Add Benrahma to that list. His dribbling skills are unrivalled in the division and his end product isn’t bad either – 14 goal contributions in the league this season have helped Brentford in their ascent up the table. Even if the Bees aren’t playing Premier League football next season, this man probably will be.

Key stat: Said Benrahma averages 3.7 shots per game in the Championship – no one averages more.

Leeds: Kalvin Phillips

When times get tough, you need someone to dig in and drag your team to a result, by hook or by crook. Step forward Kalvin Phillips. He was dearly missed in Leeds’ defeat at the City Ground and it’s a massive boost for them that his three-game suspension is over. Influential is an understatement. They need him more than ever right now.

Key stat: The only games Kalvin Phillips has missed this season have been through suspension.
