The All India Chess Federation (AICF) is set to propel Indian chess to unprecedented heights, marking a historic chapter in the nation’s chess legacy. Over the past three years, the Indian chess landscape has undergone significant reforms, resulting in remarkable success both on and off the board. The recent Chess Olympiad hosted in Chennai stands as a testament to India’s growing influence in international chess, and the AICF is now taking strategic steps to further fortify this position.

AICF’s latest initiative involves a substantial financial commitment of 2 crore INR (USD 240,459) to Grandmaster R Praggnandhaa, Grandmaster Vidit Gujarathi, and International Master Vaishali. This move, as outlined in an official press release, aims to provide crucial financial assistance for the players’ preparation for upcoming chess events. The trio, inspired by the legendary Viswanathan Anand, represents the future of Indian chess and has already made significant strides on the global stage.

President Sanjay Kapoor, speaking on behalf of the AICF, emphasized the federation’s recognition of the immense potential these players hold. “Our financial backing is a strategic move to empower these exceptional players and ensure they have the support they need to chase victory and etch their names in the annals of chess greatness,” stated Kapoor.

The financial assistance covers a spectrum of needs, including training camps, coaching fees, travel expenses, and logistical requirements. By providing these resources, the AICF aims to enable the players to concentrate fully on their game, fostering an environment conducive to success. This commitment follows the recent accomplishments of Praggnandhaa, who secured a runner-up finish in the World Cup, and the dynamic duo of Vidit and Vaishali, who triumphed at the World Grand Swiss, claiming both the Open and Women titles.

Bharat Chauhan, Chairman of the FIDE Advisory Board, lauded AICF’s initiative, describing it as commendable. “This bold move will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and development of Indian chess on the global stage,” Chauhan remarked. He highlighted that the reforms in the Indian chess landscape are not only reflected in on-the-board success but also in the effective organization of tournaments, positioning India at the forefront of the international chess community.

Looking ahead, the AICF has announced the hosting of five International Grandmaster Chess Tournaments in the next two months. This strategic initiative aims to provide opportunities for the next generation of players to earn international title norms, contributing significantly to the overall development of chess in India.

As the AICF charts this historic course for Indian chess, the nation watches with anticipation, hopeful that this investment will further solidify India’s standing as a powerhouse in international chess and inspire a new generation of chess enthusiasts across the country.
