There are ten different teams from varied states of the country and each of them are owned either by influential celebrities or top-notch industrialists. These owners strive to make their teams stronger and more successful pumping more financial support with each passing season.

Let’s take a closer look at who these owners are, where they come from, and how they help their teams win!

  1. Rajasthan Royals – The team to win the first ever season of IPL in 2008, under the able captaincy of the legendary cricketer Shane Warne was the Rajasthan Royals. The franchise has its the ownership split between two individuals – Manoj Badale’s Emerging Media IPL Ltd. holds the majority share stake (almost up to 65%) and Lachlan Murdoch from the Fox Corporation is the other shareholder with the remaining quantity. The team faced controversy in 2015 when it was suspended for two years over a betting scandal but made a strong comeback in 2018.  The Royals team is based out of the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur as the home ground.

  1. Punjab Kings – The northern team Punjab Kings, formerly known as the Kings XI Punjab, was formed in 2008, with the inaugural season of IPL itself. The team has undergone several transformations, including a nomenclature rebranding. Punjab Kings is co-owned by several individuals Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta, and Karan Paul. Despite powerful players and passionate ownership, the team has only reached the IPL final once in 2014. The quest for their first victory still seems a distant dream for the franchise. The team has seen an array of different captains too, and hence the team has been under constant scrutiny from the experts.
  1. Gujarat Titans – Gujarat Titans are the most recent additions to the IPL bandwagon, which was added as a team in 2022 and made their debut in the league. The team made an immediate impact by winning the IPL title in their inaugural season under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya. The team is owned by CVC Capital Partners, a private equity and investment firm, and bought the team for reportedly over INR 5600 crore. Their home ground is the Narendra Modi stadium in Motera, and the side is captained by the young lad Shubman Gill.
  1. Lucknow Super Giants – Lucknow is the second team that was introduced along with Gujarat Titans in the year 2022. The team is owned by Sanjiv Goenka and his RPSG Group, which earlier owned the now-dissolved team, Rising Pune Supergiants. It made a strong start in its debut season by reaching the playoffs. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka recently revealed how Rishabh Pant’s smart on-field antics made him break the bank for the India’s wicketkeeper batter during the Indian Premier League 2025 auction, making him the most expensive player in the history of the league.
