Pakistani Fans Slams “Babar Azam” As biggest Fraud in Cricket after his dismal show in T20 World Cup

Babar Azam’s 15-run knock against the Netherlands in Pakistan’s opening T20 World Cup match triggered a fresh wave of debate, frustration, and harsh reactions from fans—especially on X (formerly Twitter). In a game where Pakistan were expected to dominate comfortably, Babar’s early dismissal once again put the spotlight on his performances in high-pressure ICC tournaments.

The criticism wasn’t just about the number of runs. Fans questioned the impact of Babar’s innings, pointing out that as Pakistan’s premier batter and one of the most consistent run-scorers of the last decade, expectations from him are far higher—especially in World Cups. Many posts on X used strong language, with some angry supporters even branding him a “fraud cricketer,” accusing him of failing to deliver match-winning knocks when it matters most.

However, such reactions also reflect the emotional nature of fan discourse rather than a complete assessment of reality. Babar Azam remains one of Pakistan’s most accomplished batters statistically, with multiple ICC awards, long stints at the top of world rankings, and a record that speaks of remarkable consistency across formats. The frustration stems from a recurring pattern—while Babar scores heavily in bilateral series, his World Cup performances have often lacked defining, tournament-changing innings.

The Netherlands match reignited this long-running narrative. A slow start, followed by an untimely dismissal, made his 15 feel insignificant in context, even if Pakistan went on to stabilize later. In modern T20 cricket, fans expect intent, dominance, and leadership from their top-order stars—qualities they felt were missing.

Calling Babar a “fraud” may be excessive and unfair, but the criticism highlights a genuine concern: Pakistan need their biggest name to step up on the biggest stage. For Babar Azam, the remainder of the tournament isn’t just about runs—it’s about silencing doubts, shaping wins, and rewriting the World Cup chapter of his legacy.
