The Southern Brave won the Women’s Hundred 2023 title with a 34-run victory over the Northern Superchargers in the final at The Lord’s on Sunday.
The Brave, who were the defending champions, posted a challenging 139-6 after being invited to bat first. Danni Wyatt top-scored with 59 off 38 balls, while Freya Kemp jerked a quick 31 off just 17 deliveries.
The Superchargers were bowled out for 105 by the Brave’s bowlers, with Kalea Moore taking 3-15 and Lauren Bell 2-21.
Moore was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets in her first 15 deliveries to put the Superchargers on the back foot. Bell was also impressive, taking two wickets in her first 18 deliveries and finishing with an economy rate of just 4.00.
The Superchargers, who were the runners-up in 2021, will be disappointed with their performance in the final. They had made it to the final with a comfortable victory over the Oval Invincibles in the semi-final, but they were unable to replicate that form against the Brave.
Danni Wyatt was awarded the Player of the Match award for her outstanding 59.
The Superchargers will be disappointed to have lost the final, but they can take heart from the fact that they have made significant progress in the past two seasons. They will be hoping to go one step further next year and win the title.
The Women’s Hundred is a great success story, and it is clear that it is here to stay. The tournament has helped to raise the profile of women’s cricket in England, and it has also provided a platform for some of the best young players in the world to showcase their talents.
The future of women’s cricket is bright, and the Women’s Hundred is playing a major role in its development. The win was a fitting end to a successful season for the Brave. They had finished top of the table in the regular season, and they had also won all three of their knockout matches, including the final.
