Early Life

Sir Geoffrey Philip Howarth was born in Auckland, New Zealand, on 29th March. Definitely, the most famous cricketer to have come out of Auckland, this right-handed batsman is one of the famous Howarth family, who produced two of the greatest cricket sportsmen of the last century, with the other one being Hedley Howarth, a quite famous International player.

Domestic Career

Geoff Howarth shined in his domestic career, and indeed very quickly became one of the players of note in New Zealand. He outshone every other player in his highest first-class score, which was 183, playing for Surrey against the Hampshire team. His best bowling figure is 5 for 32, playing for Auckland against the Central Districts Team. These legendary figures made him the very pride of Auckland, and whichever local team he was playing for at the current time.

International Career

Most of his cricketing career did not coincide with his brother Hedley’s, and he went on to play as a specialist batsman for the national team and captained it for 30 out of 47 Test matches. Geoff Howarth even made six Test centuries and led the team to their first victory over the West Indies.
