Gavin Briant - Age, Career Info & Stats

Born on the 11th of  April in 1969 in Salisbury, now Harare, Gavin Aubrey Briant is a 49 years old former cricketer of the national cricket team of Zimbabwe. A right-handed batsman with a bowling style of right- arm off- break, he also played for the Mashonaland cricket team. He was usually in the position of a cover fielder who occasionally kept wicket.

Gavin Briant shot to the headlines when he played exceptionally well and scored an unbeaten 103 runs for Zimbabwe against England in 1989- 1990. This was after a season spent with Worcestershire in their 2nd XI. In the year 1990, he was part of the Zimbabwe team which won the ICC Trophy. Although for a while, he lost his form and missed the selections for the 1992 World Cup, he did win a place on Zimbabwe’s very first tour to India, in the year 1992 to 1993. It was on this tour that he made his first and only Test appearance. His debut test match was in Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi, on the 13th of March, 1993, against the Indian cricket team.

Gavin Briant also won his five ODI caps as well as toured England in that very season. His first debut in One Day International was against Pakistan was at Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium, situated in Sharjah, and was held on 1st of February, 1993, where he managed to score some runs and was not out till the end. His last ODI was against India on 25th of March in 1993 at Nehru Stadium, Pune against India. After this, his form fell away and thereafter he appeared very little in any form of the game.
