Early Life
Dipak Narshibhai Patel was born in Nairobi, Kenya Colony, on 25th October 1958, a day that was engraved into cricketing history as the birthday of one of the legends of cricketing history. A Right handed batter and an Off Break Bowler, he functioned as an All Rounder for the team, displaying great efficiency in both batting and bowling for the team. He is the brother of Kaushik Patel, another great batsman of the last century.
Domestic Career
One of the most stylish batsmen of the last century, he played for New England before playing for New Zealand. While playing for England, he scored 9734 runs at 29.23 and took 357 wickets at 36.66.
In his career for New Zealand, he scored 1234 runs at 38.56 in his first season, making him legendary. These statistics made him one of the best to play in those times, and thus he was called for the Test team.
International Career
English national selectors overlooked him (a much-regretted fact), and he moved to New Zealand, and he quickly became an essential part of the team, used to ward off the strategies of other teams. His debut was against the West Indies, where he scored 18 and 20 and bowled 3 overs.
