David O'Sullivan

David O’Sullivan was one of the most famous cricketers to have played in the infamous 70s. A player from New Zealand, this awesome cricketer has proved himself as one of the best players of the 70s. Among cricket experts who specialize in the 70s, David O’Sullivan is undoubtedly one of the best Right-handed players of the 70s. As a player, he played on the New Zealand National Team, and had his test debut on 7th February 1973, a match against Pakistan, one in which he outperformed most of the other players.

Early Life

David O’Sullivan is undoubtedly the finest cricketer to have come out of Palmerston North. He enrolled at Palmerston North Boy’s High School, and it was there that he discovered his interest in cricket, and descended onto the field as a left arm spin bowler.

Early Playing Years

He went to England in 1970, and soon become one of the very best players to be playing in England. He was called ‘the backbone of the country’s second eleven championship success.’ His first-class match for Hampshire was in 1971, against the foreign Indian Team, match in which he bowled 64.4 overs and took 5 for 116 and 3 for 27. While not his very best on the field, this was still proof of his overall skill and competence. A year later, he was invited to play on their senior team.

1972: The Best Year

1927 was one of the best years for the famed cricketer and was the very foundation of the cricketer’s fame. He took part in 11 matches for Hampshire,  almost all of which were rousing successes for the cricketer, and took 29 wickets at 20.86. Among other honors, he was selected to the New Zealand team for playing in the Coca-Cola Knockout Cup.
