David Laud Houghton is a former Zimbabwean Test cricketer born on 23 June 1957 and the current head coach of Derbyshire country cricket club. He captained Zimbabwe in their first 4 matches and led the team in 17 One Day Internationals. He is a right-hand batsman and right arm off-break bowler.

Houghton was born at Bulawayo and he started his life as a wicketkeeper, but became a top-class slip fielder too, possibly help by his time as Zimbabwe’s hockey goalkeeper. As a batsman, he had an attacking mindset. He had the ability to play either long, attacking ones, defensive innings or shorter, and he was a brilliant player of spin, but equally adept against pace. In 1975 he was conscripted into the Rhodesian Armored Car Regiment and played his first professional cricket in the Army, representing the regiment in the National Championship of 1977.

In Test cricket, his debut match was Vs India at Harare on 18 October 1992 and he played his last Test match against New Zealand at Bulawayo on 25 September 1997. His ODI debut match was Vs Australia at Nottingham on 9 June 1983 and his last ODI match was Vs New Zealand at Harare on 5 October 1997. His Test highest scored was 266 and ODI highest score was 142.

In Test cricket, he scored 1464 runs in 22 matches with the average is 43.05 and strike rate of 45.45 and in ODI matches he scored 1530 runs in 63 matches with the average of 26.37 and strike rate of 70.99. His bowling average is not good in test cricket. He only did 5 balls in a match. Total he played 22 test matches. In ODI cricket he got only 1 wicket in 63 matches with the economy rate of 9.50 and the bowling average of 19.00.
