Aarif Sheikh, a cricket player from Nepal who was vice-captain of the under-19 national team and is now on the senior team, was born on October 5, 1997. A right-handed batsman and right-arm medium-pace bowler Aarif is an all-arounder. In May 2014, he debuted for Nepal against Hong Kong.

He represents Golden Gate International College, which competes in the SPA Cup, and the APF Club of the National League. In August 2018, against the Netherlands, he was one of the eleven cricketers who competed in Nepal’s debut One Day International (ODI) game.

Early Cricket Career

In December 2013, Aarif debuted for the Nepal Under-19s at the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup. In the tournament, he scored 25 runs against Pakistan, 40 against India, and 48 against UAE.

He was crowned Player of the Tournament at the national one-day tournament played in Kathmandu, where he amassed a 261 run total, an average of 52.20 and 11 wickets, and won the competition.

He was chosen to be a member of the national team for the 2014 ACC Premier League as a result of his outstanding performances in the national tournament. He took two wickets against Hong Kong in his first game for Nepal, and he also bowled Jamie Atkinson, the captain of that team. Additionally, he took 2 wickets in the game against Afghanistan.

International Career

Along with his partner Karan KC, he traveled to India in September 2014 for a 10-day training session at the Just Cricket Academy in Bangalore before taking part in the Division Three match of the 2014 ICC World Cricket League.

In the 2014 ACC Under-19 Premier League, he played for the Nepal Under-19s and was the second-highest run-scorer. In 5 innings, he put up 190 runs at an average of 38.00. In January 2015, he made his List A debut in Namibia’s Division Two of the 2015 ICC World Cricket League.

He was included in Nepal’s cricket team for the 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament in January 2018.

On 6 November 2019, when the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) was touring Nepal, he made his first-class debut for his country Nepal. He was included in Nepal’s squads later that month for both the men’s cricket competition at the 2019 South Asian Games and the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Bangladesh. In the third-place playoff match, the Nepalese team defeated the Maldives by a margin of five wickets to take home the bronze medal. He was one of the 18 cricketers that agreed to a central contract in September 2020 with the Nepal Cricket Association.

Personal Life

His younger brother, Aasif Sheikh, played cricket for the Nepal under-19 cricket team. As a mentor to his younger brother during his formative years, Arif has a reputation for doing just that. Aasif earned 111* points in the 2016 Everest Premier League championship game to help his team, Panchakanya Tej, in winning the competition.
