After waiting for so long, IPL 2020 is finally set to get underway from 19th September 2020. Two finalists of the last edition, Mumbai Indians will square up against Chennai Super Kings in the first match. Both the teams squared up against each other in the final of 2019 IPL. The match went down to the wire. Shane Watson’s sensational knock went down in vain as Mumbai Indians won that game by 1 run.
Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are two of the most successful teams in IPL history. Mumbai Indians have won the titles 4 times, while CSK took the title home on three occasions. Ahead of the start of IPL 2020, both teams will go into the tournament as two of the favourites to win the title.
Here’s a look at the previews of both the sides:
Mumbai Indians preview:
Mumbai Indians are the defending champions. They just know how to win against the big teams. Having won the last season, Rohit Sharma would want to start IPL 2020 on a winning note. However, they would be wary of CSK, who has a habit of starting the tournament on a high.
Ahead of the start of the tournament, they suffered a big blow as Lasith Malinga was ruled out of the tournament. In his absence, other overseas bowlers with the likes of Trent Boult, Nathan Coulter-Nile etc should come good this year.
Pollard’s sensational form in CPL 2020 is likely to help Mumbai Indians a lot this edition, while it will be interesting to see how Hardik Pandya’s fares this year. Three players such as Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard will be the players to watch out for, as far as MI is concerned.
Chennai Super Kings Preview:
Mumbai Indians is perhaps the only side against whom Chennai Super Kings struggle a lot. We have seen this over the years, especially in the knockouts. Perhaps, it won’t be easy for them to start the tournament with a win this year. Also, the absence of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh would only add to their concerns.
Almost all the players in the first five of the batting line haven’t played international cricket for long. They will be making a comeback to the cricket ground after a long rest. Nobody could tell how they perform as we haven’t seen them for long.
