U Mumba is a kabaddi franchise based in Mumbai, Maharashtra that came into inception during the inaugural season of the Pro Kabaddi League. The team is currently captained by Fazel Atrachali and coached by Sanjeev Kumar Baliyan and plays all their local matches at National sports club of India stadium. The team is owned by Unilazer Ventures Pvt. Ltd. owned by Ronnie Screwvala. U Mumba have always been among the top contenders. They have a record of reaching three Pro Kabaddi finals in a row in 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively. U Mumba was on the verge of winning the inaugural season, but lost to Jaipur Pink Panthers in 2014.

In 2015, they rectified the mistakes and successfully won the tournament in 2015, defeating Bengaluru Bulls. In 2016 they again reached the finals, but lost to Patna Pirates by a narrow margin and ended up as runner up. In the last 3 seasons U Mumba’s form has dipped and they have been slightly overshadowed by new kabaddi franchises like Gujarat Fortune Giants and UP Yoddha.

Season 1 (2014)
Season 1 was like a dream come true for U Mumba as they reached the finals convincingly, but saw it broken as they lost to Jaipur Pink Panthers in the finals. They played a total of 14 matches, won 8, lost 3 matches and rest 3 resulted in a draw and ended with 51 points in the table.

Season 2 (2015)
Determined U Mumba bounced back in Season 2 and reached the finals yet again. They made amends and broke the shackles to go on to win the Pro Kabaddi League Season 2 by defeating Bengaluru Bulls. They played a total of 14 matches, won 12 and lost only 2 matches and ended with 60 points in the table.

Season 3 (2016)
Season 3 was yet another spectacular season for U Mumba as the franchise reached the finals thrice in a row and struck an eight-matches long winning streak. But it ended similar to the first season as they lost to Patna Pirates in the finals and ended up as runners-up. They played a total of 14 matches, won 12 and lost only 2 matches and earned 60 points in the table.

Season 4 (2016)
Despite high expectations and excellent track record U Mumba couldn’t rise to the expectations and despite winning more matches than Puneri Paltan, couldn’t make it to the play offs. They played a total of 14 matches won 7, lost 6 and 1 resulted in a draw.

Season 5 (2017)
Measuring U Mumba on pedestal of potential, track record and form, the team was expected to atleast reach the play offs, but amid huge expectations, the team bundled out under pressure and failed to reach the play offs. They played a total of 22 matches, won 10 and lost 12 matches and ended with 56 points in the table.

Best Defender- Surender Singh (58 tackle points in 22 matches)

Season 6 (2018)
U Mumba showed much improvement in season 6 of the Pro Kabaddi League as after the poor show in 2016 and 2017, the team qualified for the play offs, but couldn’t reach the finals. They played a total of 22 matches, won 15 and lost 5 matches, 2 resulted in a draw, and the team ended with 86 points in the table.
